Free Community Membership requires no payment or volunteering. Paid enrollment remains closed. The separate voluntary Builder pathway is explained below.

WAYS TO CONNECT AS THE WORK DEVELOPS
Free Community Membership: Select Join Free and complete the free membership sign-up. No orientation, application, volunteering, payment, or service commitment is required.
The voluntary Builder service pathway is separate from paid Builders Membership. Compare membership learning packages and benefits. Paid membership enrollment remains closed; recording interest collects no payment and activates no paid benefits.
For the separate voluntary Builder pathway:
Learn the mission and review the public participation pathways.
Select Answer the Call to express your interest. Share your city and state, skills, experience, service interests, and availability.
NBWSAA reviews your interest submission and may invite you to orientation.
After orientation, selected individuals may be invited to complete the full Call to Service Application.
The completed application undergoes further review and approval before any written role, assignment, or next step is offered.
Begin an approved role only after the required written documentation, training, access safeguards, and formal activation are complete.
Builder participation is voluntary and unpaid unless a separate written agreement expressly states otherwise. Expressing interest or completing these steps does not guarantee selection, appointment, employment, compensation, or organizational authority.
LOCAL WORK. NATIONAL CONNECTION.
City and state organizing begins by listening to residents, identifying local needs and assets, mapping Black-owned businesses and responsible partners, and documenting practical priorities. The national umbrella is being developed to connect shared standards, tools, knowledge, and lessons across communities—not to take over the leadership or legal responsibilities of independent organizations.
Independent businesses and organizations remain responsible for their own decisions, services, finances, statements, and obligations. Connection does not automatically create ownership, control, partnership, agency, endorsement, or affiliation.
PARTICIPATION STATUS
NBWSAA is in its foundation-building stage. Free Community Membership is available now through Join Free and is separate from the voluntary Builder pathway. It does not require orientation, an application, volunteering, payment, or a service commitment.
Formal Builder roles, leadership appointments, chapters, committees, and partnership arrangements remain under development and require the applicable review, written approval, documentation, and formal activation before they begin.
Joining the community, expressing interest through Answer the Call, attending orientation, or completing an application does not grant a role or organizational authority and does not guarantee selection, employment, compensation, appointment, funding, a contract, board service, partnership, or any future position.
