- COMMUNITY BUILDERS & LOCAL ORGANIZERS — Community listening, outreach, neighborhood relationships, volunteer coordination, and meeting facilitation.
- BLACK BUSINESS OWNERS & ENTREPRENEURS — Directory participation, referrals, mentoring, procurement insight, and marketplace development.
- RESEARCHERS, HISTORIANS & DATA BUILDERS — Black economic history, asset mapping, research, verification, surveys, and impact measurement.
- EDUCATORS, COACHES & WORKFORCE LEADERS — Curriculum development, financial capability, apprenticeships, certifications, career readiness, and youth support.
- FINANCE, LEGAL, GOVERNANCE & COMPLIANCE PROFESSIONALS — Accounting, policies, contracts, risk review, nonprofit or corporate governance, and responsible safeguards.
- TECHNOLOGY, DESIGN, MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS CREATORS — Websites, databases, cybersecurity, branding, storytelling, video, social media, and public outreach.
- HOUSING, REAL ESTATE, AGRICULTURE & COMMUNITY-DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS — Homeownership education, land, food systems, development planning, and qualified referrals.
- OPERATIONS, FUNDRAISING & EVENT SUPPORT — Project management, administration, grants, sponsorships, logistics, and convenings.
Individuals interested in contributing as Builders should begin by completing the Answer the Call interest form. NBWSAA reviews the submission and may invite the individual to orientation. After orientation, selected individuals may be invited to complete the full Call to Service Application. The completed application undergoes further review and approval before any written role, assignment, or next step is offered.
Opportunities depend on current organizational needs, capacity, qualifications, applicable safeguards, and documented approval. An approved role begins only after the required written documentation, training, safeguards, and formal activation are complete. Builder participation is voluntary and unpaid unless a separate written agreement expressly states otherwise.
Submitting an interest form, attending orientation, completing the full application, or volunteering does not guarantee selection, employment, compensation, appointment, leadership, organizational authority, funding, or any permanent position.
Free Community Membership is a separate pathway available through Join Free. It does not require orientation, an application, volunteering, payment, or a service commitment.
